Retirement house project under the Ministry of Tourism’s tourist attraction policy and officially launched, in which Japanese investment company received a total of 2, 000 hectares of land concessions at Kirirom Resort, Kompong Speu province from Cambodian government to build the houses for retired tourist to invest in the first phase about $500 million and is attracting a significant number of Japanese tourists to Cambodia.
Mr. Hin Socheat, a representative of A2A Town Cambodia from Japan, said the company has been developing a long-term housing project (Second Home/Tourist Residence) as a simple and luxury type to provide all kinds of tourists for both high-cost and medium-cost tourists, especially retired tourists.
Mr. Socheat also said “After the company announced residential rental for retired tourists last year, we get the sub-leases from a lot of tourists from Japan, which up to 60% of the total visitors, while the local visitors are about 20% to 40%”.
“What is special attracting more tourists to this area is the quiet natural accommodation with the area with the largest number of pine trees in Cambodia accompanied by the beautiful weather of Kirirom natural area, located on the top of mountain near Phnom Penh; not only that, the guests can rent back to the company when not staying” Mr. Socheat added.
It should be informed that in the past the Ministry of Tourism has studied the elderly tourists, mostly from China, Korea, Japan and Europe and most of them have a high probability of spending their leisure time for health after they retired from work.
According to studies, this type of tourist prefers to live in a quiet place to relax such as mountains, islands and sea because it is a place with natural fresh air as maintained by green plants. In addition, they can also travel to the countryside or to any districts adjacent to that tourist area by cycling and walking as well.
